Public Access Computers

Public Access Computers

The library offers public computers that are free to the public and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis during hours of operation. Four iMacs and one Dell PC with a 3.5 floppy disk drive and CD-Rom are available for general internet, word processing, and research uses.

The public computers have a 30 minute time limit if there are people waiting for them.

Please review the following policies:

  1. None of the following applies to library catalog use.
  2. Signing in (under Name) means you want to use a computer. Unless a computer is available when you sign in, leave your starting time (under Time Started) blank to show that you are waiting for a computer. Writing down your starting time means you have begun using a computer. Putting a check mark (under Done) means you are finished using a computer.
  3. Internet, Word processing, CD-ROM use is limited to 30 minutes if others
are waiting. If there is no one waiting you may continue, without signing in again, until someone else signs in.
  4. When you quit, it is the next signed-up user's turn, even if all 30 minutes were not used. You may not pass your unused time to someone else.
  5. When you finish, either do nothing or click the Home button. Do not turn off the Internet browser or the computer. If the computer freezes, do not reset. Ask a member of library staff for help.
  6. Once off the computer you may sign up again and wait for another opening. You may only be signed up once at any time.
  7. It is up to you to keep track of whether a computer is available – not library staff.
  8. Protecting e-mail privacy: start a second Internet browser window when you begin using the computer and close that window when you finish.
  9. The computers are not identical in speed or programs. If the available computer isn't the one you need, then the user who signed up after you may take it. You will remain at the top of the list until the one you need is available.
  10. Printed pages are 10¢ each. Please try to print only the pages you want to pay for.

Additionally, the library offers one Gateway PC available as a study/research computer and is reservable for up to two hours. This computer is not available for general internet use. Please call us at (307) 367-4114 to reserve this computer for study/research purposes or stop in and speak to a librarian at the Front Desk.

Please remember that Internet use is a no cost privilege to be enjoyed and shared by all.

Parents must sign an internet permission form for each child under the age of 18. View and print a children's internet permission form.
