Encouraging young readers

Kids who read perform better in school and express more creativity. Here are some helpful tips to help your little one of any age love to read!

Babies

Visit Frontier College's Tips on Reading with your Baby


Preschoolers

-read with your child, and be enthusiastic as you read
-set a good example by enjoying reading yourself
-visit your library often
-focus on subjests that are of special interest to your child



School age children

-always keep interesting books on hand around the house
-encourage discussion with your child about what they are reading
-have them keep track of their progress by implementing a reward system
-pack books and books-on-tape for car trips instead of toys
-give books and magazines as gifts and rewards
